Remix is the all-new feature added on Instagram for the Reels content. It works the same way duets work on TikTok.
But the type of audience and content out there on Instagram isn’t exactly identical to TikTok.

Now you can use the Remix feature in Reels to create your own reel next to one that already exists ðŸŽ
Whether you’re capturing your reaction, responding to friends or bringing your own magic to trends, Remix is another way to collab on Instagram ✨ pic.twitter.com/eU8x74Q3yf
Remix on Reels is a new way to hop on the trends, recreate them, or create new trends of your own. It is a whole new kind of content in which you can pour your creativity.
Contrary to popular belief that Remix is just for widely-liked content such as comedy and dance, it can work for other genres too.
You just have to be a little more willing to go the extra mile and come up with ideas to engage with your audience.
The quality of your video can degrade on reels if its not exported with the right settings. Check out this quick tutorial on how to edit your reels on Da Vinci Resolve, a desktop software.

Add a voiceover when using Remix
This feature lets your record your voiceover over the sound/background music of the reel you are remixing.
The volume of your voiceover and the background music can be adjusted in-app. For e.g, if you are speaking only for a few seconds in the video and you want the music to play in the rest, adjust the volumes accordingly.
For the best sound quality, I’d suggest wearing headphones while recording a voiceover.
Just like reels, you can upload a previously recorded video in a remix. It doesn’t have to be recorded in real-time only.
[fluentform id=”1″]Enable/Disable Remixing
Remix was launched on March 31. For all of your reels that were posted before it, you have to manually enable remixes on them.
For an individual reel
Open the reel which you want to enable for remixes. Click on the three dots in the bottom-right corner and tap on ‘enable remixing’. (Second option from the top, right below ‘delete’)
Follow the same steps to disable remixing on a particular reel.
For all of the reels on your Instagram account
Apart from this, you can also go to the privacy settings of your account and disable remixing on all of your reels.
Steps for this are: Settings > Privacy > Reels > Turn off the tab against ‘Enable Remix’.
All of the reels posted after March 31 will automatically be enabled for remixing.
You can remix your own reels as well.
If you have many reels posted before this date, consider posting a story and asking your followers which reel they’d like to remix.
Whenever someone remixes your reel, you’ll receive a notification.
Not able to remix someone’s reel?
This can be because of three reasons:
- They have a private account.
- They have disabled remixing on that particular reel.
- Remixing has been disabled by them on their account as a whole.
