Do These 4 Things After Posting On Instagram: BEST Practices

Before you publish your next Instagram post, I want you to wait and read what are the 5 things you should do after posting on Instagram.

The practices that we’re going to talk about in this post won’t just help in boosting the organic reach of that particular post but also your entire Instagram profile as a whole.

FYI, I talk about how to grow on Instagram and photography tips on my Insta @garimashares, so if you’re into that, check it out!

What you SHOULD be doing after posting on Instagram

Share it to your stories smartly

Yes, I know. Most of you have already re-shared the post on stories. But that won’t drive the maximum possible engagement.

And this, I am speaking from my own personal experience.

When I re-shared my post on stories through this technique, I received more replies and comments on my post, genuine ones.

So, here’s what you have to do.

Before sharing the post on your Instagram story, post a story that is related to the post.

This story should urge the viewer to engage. Ask people their opinions on it, suggestions, problems they’re facing, how they relate to it, etc.

You can do so by either just texting or using stickers like polls.

For example, look at this post –

Before putting this on Instagram stories, I can ask my followers things like:

  • Which is your favorite Harry Potter character?
  • Which house do you belong to?
  • Post a movie scene and put up a poll asking which Harry Potter movie is it from
  • Have you read the Harry Potter books?
  • Which Harry Potter character do you relate with the most?

If your story is engaging, people are more likely to want to see the next story you’ve posted and it will have your new post!

More people will see your new Instagram post. That initial spark you created by asking a question helps.

Give your post good enough time before judging it as a flop

Avoid refreshing the page repeatedly to see how many likes and comments you’re getting.

Don’t get disheartened just because the post didn’t perform as you wanted it to in the first hour or even the first day.

Give the post time to perform. One post not working well doesn’t signify that that type of content is not well received.

Go to your DMs

Check your DM requests section and go through the unanswered DMs. The no#1 way to build a community on Instagram is to actually talk and connect with people who are trying to reach you.

I get DMs from aspiring photographers asking about various things like how to get more bookings, how to handle conversations with clients, and so on.

I make sure to go through these DMs at least thrice a week. People might be replying to your Instagram stories.

The fact that people are reaching out to you is a sign that you’re being seen as a trustworthy source of info.

And you should definitely take advantage of this and reply to those DMs.

Be active in the comments

After posting on Instagram, be present in the comment sections and reply to the comments you get on the post.

There’s no use in waiting around for hours before starting to engage with comments on your posts.

If you’ve some extra time on your hands, go to the hashtags you’ve put in the post and leave genuine comments on around 10-15 posts.

These posts should be from similar creators and not just random posts you come across.
