How to Use Instagram Stories to Get More Followers

Before I begin, let me clear that this is not the post where you’ll see a link to an app or website that gets you followers instantly.

Nope. That is not beneficial at all! We (influencers) are there to influence people and not some random bot accounts.

I know it feels very tempting to buy followers. Almost 90% of the influencers I see on Instagram have bought followers in order to shorten the path to freebies.

Quick Tip!

If you want to check if your favorite blogger is a real one or a buyer of bot followers, use Social Blade. Enter their username and you’ll see details about their increase in follower count.

If its more than 100 a day, it’s fake! If the graph increases suddenly, it’s a fake!

Get More Out of Your Instagram Stories

Do you spend more time scrolling through your Instagram feed or tapping between Instagram stories?

Everyone watches stories because it’s short and can be skipped in a second.

Just sharing random motivational quotes, cute pictures of dogs isn’t going to help you. You need to use your Instagram stories to lure in more viewers and followers.

Use the Location Tag

As simple as that. Use the location tag on your stories so that people who search for that location on Instagram land on your profile.

It’s a small step but can make a huge difference in getting more people to view your stories.

Use Hashtags and Tags to Get More Followers

Hashtags not only work on posts but on stories as well.

Don’t add random popular hashtags, use only relevant hashtags about the story you’re posting.

For example, if you’re showing off your new pair of shoes, tag the brand, use hashtags like #shoestagram #shoes #fromwhereistand #fashion #ootd.

Posting a picture with your friend in it? Always tag the friend!

Hashtags work in a similar way as SEO does.

Post Videos and Boomerangs, Get Creative

Analyse your own habits. I tap through simple picture stories on a faster pace as compared to when I see a video/boomerang story.

Video is the future.

Instead of posting a picture, quickly make a boomerang, a short video of the place around you, a boomerang of you having a good time etc. are way more likely to attract viewers.

Quick Tip!

My favorite app to edit videos, merge different small videos together is InShot. It lets you add music, filters, effects like glitches, waves and so much more.

Download InShot for Android

Download InShot for iOS

The app has its own music library which has a great set of music to choose from according to the mood of the video you’re making.

Remember to keep the ratio to 16:9 for Instagram stories while editing in InShot.

Stylize your stories

Except for InShot, there are apps like Unfold and StoryArt which have beautiful ready-to-use templates.

Examples of templates on StoryArt:

story art instagram story
story art instagram story
story art instagram story

I made this on Inshot first, added music and filter, then used StoryArt for this entire theme.

I have covered more details about this in the post linked below.
