Should You Buy Instagram Followers In 2023?

Do you want to buy Instagram followers? It is natural to wonder whether it’s a wise decision or not. Will it have a positive or negative impact on your account?

Nowadays, you can get a lot of followers for cheap. Within a few hours, you can go from 0 to 10,000 followers. But is it worth it?

You will spot more people with thousands of followers today than you could have 2-3 years ago. Because people who are looking for a shortcut are using their money to buy Instagram followers.

Buying followers will not help you land brand collaborations, it doesn’t help your credibility but harms it.

The hidden cost is steep. Your account will end up having thousands of inactive fake followers who don’t contribute by any means.

Your real followers might feel alienated and in the worst-case scenario, you can even lose your account if Instagram recognises this activity. In short, don’t buy Instagram followers.

In this blog post, I will walk you through this new fad of buying fake followers and becoming an influencer overnight and how it’s doing more harm than good. The growth and brand deals you receive when you’ve grown organically are unmatched.

Reasons why you shouldn’t buy Instagram followers

More followers don’t guarantee success

Having a large number of followers indeed raises your credibility, but only when it’s real and the quality of your content matches that number.

If you buy Instagram followers (say, 100k) and nobody in your niche knows your name, it’s not going to do you any good.

You might get small brand collabs but they will be barter.

Buying Instagram followers stunts the growth of your profile and reduces the organic reach of your posts.

On the flip side, brands who collaborate with these accounts risk partnerships with no payoff and wasted resources.

Stay consistent and upgrade the quality of your content every day to grow organically. Read the post linked below to know how I did it.

You lose integrity & credibility

For brands and fellow influencers who spend the majority of their time on Instagram, it is pretty easy to spot a fake.

Having fake followers is like filling a movie theatre with mannequins instead of people. These mannequins aren’t going to watch the movie or enjoy it. They’re just there to physically fill the seats.

This is similar to fake followers who aren’t going to interact with your content but just exist without a purpose.

So, why would you want to buy followers?

This decreases your credibility.

Every influencer who got to a certain level with their hard work knows how to spot someone who became an influencer overnight.

You won’t be able to get in the circle and network if this becomes common knowledge that you have fake followers.

You might even lose your account

Once in a while, Instagram does a sweep.

It looks for bot accounts and people who have a lot of bot accounts on their profiles.

It recognises them as fake and deletes them. You can lose your whole account along with the content you posted.

Reduced organic reach

Once you buy followers or even likes on your posts, you can say goodbye to organic reach and engagement.

The algorithm can identify such activities and as a result of it, push your post to fewer people on Instagram.

Poor engagement rate

This can be tricky because engagement rates have dropped for everyone lately. But a clear sign of a fake influencer is when they have thousands of followers and not even 20 comments on their posts.

Bots can comment but they can’t interact with posts via shares and saves. If the content doesn’t get a good number of shares and saves, the followers are most probably fake.

Spammy comments

This is one of the easiest ways to find out if an influencer buys Instagram followers. Check the comments!

If it is filled with generic comments, emojis from private accounts or public accounts with few random posts, it is a red flag.

Check the profile of the followers

Click on the followers on their profile and check the account of a bunch of them.

If they are ghost profiles that have no posts, very few followers with little to no activity then it’s a bot account.

Has this happened to you?

Sometimes people can add fake followers to your account.

You would notice that suddenly 100s of people are following every next minute.

What should you do if this happens?

You should remove those followers manually to have only active & genuine followers on your account.
