Go to your Instagram account and open up the menu you get by pressing on the three lines on the top right and go to ‘Account’.

After pressing on next, you have to select a category that best describes you as a creator. This is similar to the category you choose while setting up a business account on Instagram.

You also have the option to either hide or show your category on your profile. That’s it, your creator account on Instagram is now ready.

On the Instagram app, in the audience section, you can now see a graph that shows your growth.

You can click on any day and find out how many people followed or unfollowed you on that particular day.

This can help influencers track their reach and engagement over the course of time more closely.

Previously, it was possible to use third-party apps to get the follow/unfollow data until Instagram’s API changes disabled many third-party apps.

According to an Instagram spokesperson, “We’ve gotten feedback that existing tools around business profiles make it difficult to track creator follower growth and engagement over time and that existing business tools weren’t designed with them in mind.”

Easier to share the analytics with the brands

Instagram creator account also makes it simpler to share the stats of their sponsored posts to the brand they’re working with.

The creator studio which is an extension to the creator account serves the purpose perfectly.

Customization in messaging

A regular Instagram influencer is showered with messages from their followers asking where they bought their clothes or any other products from.

It is also filled with potential collaborations as brands DM them. It can be quite a chaotic thing to separate them both from each other from a pile of DMs.

In the creator profile, you get two inboxes: primary and general. This will get them more control over their inbox.

Creators can tag products in their posts. This feature was previously available only to the retailers. This will make it easier for their followers to buy their favorite products without leaving the app.

This shortens the process to a bare minimum effort. Earlier, one had to take a screenshot and send it in order to ask where was it purchased from and now they can simply tap on the post to get a link to buy the product shown.

Last month, Instagram introduced Checkout, a new feature that allows shoppers to make a purchase without ever leaving the app. Prior to the update, viewers would be taken a product description page after tapping on a product tag.

According to the New York Times, this feature will initially be rolled out to 55 creator accounts working with 23 different brands.

It will include “celebrities whose followers number among the platform’s highest, like Kim Kardashian West, Kylie Jenner, and Gigi Hadid.”

Should you make the switch to Instagram Creator Account?

With the creator profile, Instagram is finally putting a higher priority on their biggest user base, we can expect more updates to follow.

These features won’t be available to everyday users. It will be specific to influencers only.

There might be some metric that determines whether you can switch or not.
