Meta is working on introducing new ways that will help creators earn on Instagram. And as a result, make a living out of it.
Some new features have been rolled out, although to just US-based creators for now.
One of the new features that have been around for a while in the US is subscriptions.
Followers can subscribe to their favorite creator and get access to exclusive content which is only visible to the subscribers.
Digital collectibles can now be sold to earn money on Instagram.
Let’s learn about these new features in detail.
Table Of Contents
1. Subscriptions
This feature was launched in January this year and is now available to all eligible US creators.
Using subscriptions, creators on Instagram can post exclusive content to their subscribers for a fee paid every month by their followers.
This way of earning on Instagram, helps you predict exactly how much money you’re going to make in a month.
Creators can promote and urge their followers to become subscribers by using the subscription sticker (also available to only eligible users) on their Instagram stories.
In order to check if you’re eligible to use the subscriptions feature on Instagram, go to your professional dashboard in the app.
If you’re eligible, the subscriptions option will show up here.
Creators can post the following kind of content for paid subscribers- stories, posts, reels, live streams, group chats, and broadcast channels.
Subscribers also get a badge next to their name, visible whenever they comment on that creator’s post.

2. Instagram Gifts- Stars
The ‘Gifts’ feature is similar to a TikTok feature. Followers can give gifts to their favorite creators to support them through the reels they post.
Gifts are paid for with ‘stars,’ which are purchased with real money.
When a creator receives a gift, they earn a cut of what the user spent to send it.
Instagram gifts are relatively new and are in the testing phase right now. So, not many details are known about this way to earn on Instagram yet.
For creators who are already using Stars, new features have been launched to make it easier to earn Stars:
- Bringing Stars Party to Reels. A Stars Party is a Stars community challenge that ends in a celebration when the creator reaches their goal.Â
- Testing a new set of virtual gifts tailored to specific content. For example, if you’re watching a puppy reel from your favorite pet creator, you’ll be able to send that creator a dog-themed gift.
- Giving creators more tools to engage with Stars senders, like adding a filter in Comments Manager that displays all of a creator’s Stars comments in one place. On this surface, creators can reply to multiple comments at once.
- Bringing Stars to non-video public content like photos and text posts.
