Sharing my secrets to organic growth on Instagram
Don’t focus on likes anymore
Likes are no longer important in determining how your post performs and if Instagram’s algorithm will push your posts to more people.
You have to focus on two things:
Saves and shares.
To get more saves and shares, you have to put in your time to create the best kind of content according to your profile.
Your content should provide value, should be relatable, and should be scroll-stopping-level of amazingness.
To increase followers on Instagram, you have to reach new people, your potential followers.
And for this, you have to give people a reason to save or share your reel/post with others or on their Instagram stories.
Generally speaking, people tend to save a reel when it teaches them something.
Has some information or inspiration that they would like to get back to in the future.
Whenever you’re drafting a post for Instagram, ask yourself this question –
If I saw this reel on my explore, would I save or share it with the people I know?
Find your niche to build your presence on Instagram
I’ve been in the same position as you when I wanted to experiment and make all kinds of videos for Instagram.
For true organic growth on Instagram, you need to find your niche.
When people land on your profile, they should see who you are and why they should follow you, what they should follow you for.
For example, I’m a Photographer who shoots cinematic videos of daily life and of travel.
I want people to follow me if they like to see nostalgic videos that feel like home, remind them of simpler times, and excite them about travel destinations.
I want people to see me as an expert Photographer who has been in the industry for over 8 years.
So, what do I do about this?
I post content that directly aligns with –
How I want people to perceive me &
My niche i.e, cinematic slow-pace videos
If I start posting photos that are of different types, it will confuse people about what to expect from my future posts.
This might stop them from following me as they don’t know what posts I make most often.

Be consistent but not at the cost of quality
It will take at least a month to bear the fruits of your hard work behind being consistent with posting on Instagram.
You might have heard this advice of posting consistently a hundred times already and are probably tired of it because it didn’t work for it.
Let me tell you why it didn’t work for you.
There are some basic rules that you have to follow along with being consistent on the platform to increase followers gradually.
Don’t compromise on the quality of your content to be consistent.
You don’t have to post 2 times a day if you don’t have the time and end up posting mediocre content.
But at the same time, don’t waste time over perfection.
Alternate between posting reels and photos.
Create a schedule according to your comfort level and follow it religiously.
Posting 3 times a week but putting out your best work is great too.
Always have a separate edited image to set as the thumbnail for your reel.
It looks cleaner and more aesthetic than just using a frame from your reel video.
Keep a close eye on your insights (From your professional dashboard) to see when the highest percentage of your followers are online.
Post 30 minutes before your peak time.
Here’s how you can check your peak time
Go to the professional dashboard.
Click on Followers.
Scroll down to the end where you will see when your followers are active.
You can toggle to see which days of the week are most active and which hours are most active for you.

Become an expert at finding trending audio & use them early
Trending audios also have a magical power to inspire user-generated content.
When you use these audios, you become part of a movement, and your Reels can land in the user-generated content section.
Talk about a viral explosion of views and reach!
Now, remember, even though you’re using trending audio, it’s essential to sprinkle your Reels with your creativity. That’s what sets you apart and makes you an expert in the game.
Craft visually stunning and engaging content that’ll make people go, “Wow, this person knows their stuff.”
Here’s a tutorial on how to find trending audio on Instagram.
I share trending audio as soon as I find them with my subscribers on Instagram. Some with barely 100 reels in them.
If you don’t wanna do the work of looking for trending audios while they have fewer reels in them, consider subscribing to me at @garimashares.
I offer 1-on-1 guidance on photography and growing on Instagram as well to my subscribers.
Be open to experimenting, don’t stick to posting only what’s trending
Some styles of editing, a song, or cuts-on-beats go viral one day or the other.
It’s good to jump on what’s going viral at the moment to cash in some views and increase followers on Instagram.
But you need to have a signature style too. And for this, you need to recognize what you’re good at.
Open your profile and navigate to the professional dashboard.
Or simply open up the reels tab and see out of the last 15-20 reels, which ones received the most engagement and why.
Try making more of that content, and you will see guaranteed growth on Instagram.
When you listen to your audience when they tell you which content they love, through saves and shares, your account will grow exponentially!
When people start following you because of a particular reel, they expect more such reels in the future.
They will keep following you if you keep up with that kind of content.
And they might unfollow you if you take a completely different turn.
