What is the YouTube Shorts Fund?
YouTube introduced a $100M YouTube Shorts Fund that will be distributed over the course of 2021-2022.
YouTube Shorts were first launched as a beta feature, which is now available to all users in India and the US.
It brought together a whole lot of creators and helped build a community of creators. To support these creators and artists monetize their video content and rewarding them, the shorts fund was introduced.

All you need to do to be eligible to claim a fund is to create and publish unique YouTube Shorts.
Every month, thousands of creators whose Shorts videos received the most views and engagement will be rewarded. Given that they follow the community guidelines.
You don’t have to be a creator in the Partner Program to claim this reward for your Shorts.
This means that you don’t need 1,000 subscribers and 4,000 watch hours in the last 12 months.
But what you do need is an Adsense account connected to your YouTube Channel.
How much money can you make through your YouTube Shorts?
You can earn anywhere between $100 to $10,000 as a bonus for your YouTube Shorts.
This amount depends on how your Short’s performance and the location of the viewers of your videos.
The performance of a YouTube Short isn’t decided by the number of views it got in the month it was created and published.
But it’s determined by the monthly engagement/views it generates.

Eligibility Criteria
- Channels need to have uploaded at least one eligible Short in the last 180 days.
- Channels need to abide by YouTube’s Community Guidelines, copyright rules, and monetization policies.
- Channels uploading videos with watermarks or logos from third-party social media platforms, non-original videos (for example, unedited clips from movies or TV shows), or videos reuploaded from other creators’ channels will not be eligible.
- Creators must be 13 or older in the United States or the age of majority in their country/region.
- Creators 13–18 years old must have a parent or guardian accept terms and set up an AdSense account for payment when one isn’t already linked to their channel.
Community guidelines and requirements to be fulfilled for claiming the Shorts bonus are updated every month.
So, let’s say you got a bonus rewarded in June but not in the month of July. This doesn’t mean that you won’t be eligible in August or in any of the upcoming months.
When a new month starts, your content is checked again, from scratch. You will still be eligible to get a bonus if the Shorts perform well.

How to receive the bonus in your account
- Create an Adsense account or join your current one on your YouTube Channel
- Claim your reward bonus through the email YouTube sent you (if you get chosen according to your Short’s performance that month)
- Make sure your Adsense account has all the banking details filled out and approved
- You will receive the payment between the 21-26th of every month
Note: If you claimed a shorts bonus in August, you will get paid for it in September.
Every month, between the dates 8-10th, you will receive an email from YouTube if you were eligible and have been chosen for a Shorts fund reward.
You need to open this email and claim the bonus before the 25th of that month or else it will expire.
After this, in order to accept the payments, you need to do two more things- 1. Accept the terms and conditions and 2. Connect your YouTube channel to an active Adsense account.
If your YouTube Channel is already connected to an Adsense account, you just need to accept the terms and conditions and you’re all set.
If you don’t have an Adsense account, you will get a notification email from YouTube guiding you to create an account for yourself.
The whole process of creating and getting the Adsense account verified can take some time, months even.
But don’t worry. Until the time your Adsense account gets approved, all of the money you make through YouTube Shorts will get collected in your account.
You can simply receive all of it in your bank account whenever your account is approved by Google.
You will be notified over mail when the process is completed and you’re eligible to receive payments to your account.
