You can now connect Instagram to Google Search Console, globally. And it’s a game changer you shouldn’t miss out on.
If you are a creator, photographer, blogger, influencer or business owner, there is a good chance you are thinking about Instagram SEO much more than you were a few years ago.
And there is a very good reason for that.
Instagram is no longer just a place where people discover content inside the Instagram app.
Your Instagram profile and content can also appear in Google Search, which means people can discover you without ever opening Instagram first.
Until recently, it was difficult for creators to understand exactly how their Instagram content was performing on Google.
That has changed.

Google Search Console now supports Instagram Platform Properties, allowing creators and publishers to add their Instagram account to Search Console and see how their Instagram content is discovered through Google Search.
You can see clicks, impressions, click through rate, average search position and the search queries bringing people to your Instagram content.
This is a pretty significant change for anyone building a personal brand online.
In this guide, I will show you exactly how to connect Instagram to Google Search Console, what Google Search Console actually does, who should use it and how you can use the information you find to make smarter content decisions.

What is Google Search Console?
Google Search Console is a free Google tool that helps you understand how your content performs in Google Search.
Traditionally, it has been used by website owners to understand which pages appear in Google, which search queries bring visitors to their websites, how many impressions their pages receive and how often people click on them.
But Google has expanded Search Console beyond websites.
Creators can now use Platform Properties for Instagram, TikTok, X and YouTube. This allows you to understand how your content on these platforms is performing specifically on Google Search.
This distinction is important.
Google Search Console is not replacing Instagram Insights.
Instagram Insights tells you what is happening to your content inside Instagram.
Google Search Console tells you what is happening when people discover your Instagram content through Google.
Those are two very different audiences.
Someone might discover your photography tutorial because they searched Google for โbest photography composition techniquesโ and clicked an Instagram post that appeared in the results.
Before this new Search Console functionality, you had very little visibility into that journey.
Now you can start understanding it.

Can you really connect Instagram to Google Search Console?
Yes.
This is no longer a workaround or an unofficial method.
Google now officially supports Instagram as a platform property in Search Console. You can add your Instagram account as a property and authorize the connection.
Google announced Platform Properties in July 2026 and subsequently made the feature globally available.
So if you have previously searched for tutorials telling you to add your Instagram URL as a normal website property, ignore those instructions.
Instagram is not your website.
You do not need to verify Instagram by adding an HTML tag to Instagram or changing Instagram’s DNS settings.
Instead, you add Instagram as a Platform Property inside Google Search Console and authorize your account.

Why should you connect Instagram to Google Search Console?
The biggest reason is simple.
Google can tell you what people are actually searching for before they discover your Instagram content.
That information can completely change the way you think about content.
Imagine you are a photographer and you discover that people are finding your Instagram posts through searches related to:
iPhone photography tips
How to take better travel photos
Photography composition
Best camera settings for portraits
How to edit photos on iPhone
Those searches tell you something incredibly valuable.
They tell you what people are already looking for.
Instead of guessing what your audience wants, you can create more content around topics that already have demonstrated search demand.
And this is where Instagram SEO becomes much more interesting.
Who should connect Instagram to Google Search Console?
Honestly, almost every serious creator can benefit from doing this.
Content creators
If you create educational, entertaining or informative content, Google Search Console can help you understand which topics have search visibility beyond Instagram.
Photographers
Photographers can particularly benefit because photography is highly searchable.
People constantly search for photography tutorials, camera settings, editing techniques, locations, posing ideas, gear recommendations and inspiration.
Your Instagram content can become another way for those people to discover you.
Influencers and personal brands
If your goal is to build your name beyond Instagram, Google Search can become another discovery channel.
Someone might search your name, a topic you are known for or a question you have answered and discover your Instagram content.
Coaches and educators
Educational content is especially well suited to search.
If your Instagram posts answer questions people type into Google, you have an opportunity to reach people at the exact moment they are looking for that information.
Businesses
Brands can use Search Console to understand whether their Instagram content is appearing for searches related to their products, services and industry.
Bloggers and website owners
If you already have a website and an Instagram account, connecting both gives you a more complete picture of your search presence.
You can understand how your website performs in Google while separately analysing how your Instagram content performs on Google Search.

How to connect Instagram to Google Search Console
The process is surprisingly simple.
Step 1: Open Google Search Console
Go to Google Search Console and sign in with the Google account you want to use for managing your search data.
You do not need to create a separate Google account specifically for Instagram.
Step 2: Open the property selector

Once you are inside Search Console, look for the property selector.
This is where you normally switch between websites or other properties you have access to.
Select Add Property.
Google’s current Search Console documentation confirms that platform accounts such as Instagram can be added through the property setup process.
Step 3: Select Instagram
You should see the supported platform options.
Select Instagram.
Google currently supports Instagram, TikTok, X and YouTube as platform properties.
Step 4: Enter or select your Instagram account

Follow the instructions shown by Google Search Console.
You will be asked to authorize the connection to your Instagram account.
Make sure you are logged into the Instagram account you actually want to track.
If you manage several Instagram accounts, pay close attention to which account you authorize.
Step 5: Authorize the connection
Google will take you through the relevant authorization process.
This is how Google verifies that you have access to the Instagram account you are trying to add.
You are not manually inserting code into Instagram.
You are securely authorizing the connection between the two services.
Step 6: Complete the setup
Once the ownership verification is successful, Search Console will confirm that the Instagram platform property has been added.
You can then select the Instagram account from your Search Console property selector.
Google says it can take a few days for data to begin appearing for a newly created platform property.
So do not panic if you connect your account and immediately see very little data.
Give Google some time to collect and process the information.
What can you see after connecting Instagram?
This is the part I find most useful.
Your Instagram platform property gives you access to search performance information for your Instagram content.
You can see metrics including:
Clicks
How many times people clicked your Instagram content after finding it through Google.
Impressions
How many times your Instagram content appeared in Google Search.
Click through rate
The percentage of impressions that resulted in clicks.
Average search position
An indication of where your content appeared in Google’s search results.
Search queries
The searches people used that led them to your Instagram content.
You can also look at individual content and identify which posts are receiving visibility from Google Search.
This is where the data becomes genuinely useful.
What is an impression in Google Search Console?
An impression means that your content was shown to someone in Google Search.
It does not necessarily mean they clicked it.
For example, imagine your Instagram post appears 10,000 times in Google Search but receives 300 clicks.
Your impressions are 10,000.
Your clicks are 300.
Your click through rate is 3 percent.
This gives you a completely different perspective from Instagram Insights.
You might have a post that performed reasonably well inside Instagram but is also receiving substantial visibility from Google.
That is an asset worth paying attention to.
What are search queries?
Search queries are the words and phrases people typed into Google that resulted in your content appearing.
This might be the most valuable piece of information in Search Console for a creator.
Why?
Because search queries reveal intent.
If someone searches for โhow to photograph food at home,โ they are telling you exactly what they want.
If your Instagram post appears for that search, Google has identified your content as relevant to that query.
Now you have an opportunity.
You can create another post around the same topic.
You can create a Reel.
You can create a carousel.
You can write a blog post.
You can make a YouTube video.
One search query can become an entire content ecosystem.
How to use Google Search Console to improve Instagram SEO
Connecting your account is only the beginning.
The real advantage comes from what you do with the data.
Look for topics that repeatedly appear
Do not obsess over one random search query.
Look for patterns.
If several related searches are bringing people to your Instagram content, you may have found a topic that Google associates with your account.
For example, if you repeatedly appear for searches related to photography composition, that is a signal that your content has relevance around that subject.
Create more useful content around it.
Turn search queries into Instagram content
This is one of my favourite ways to use search data.
Imagine your Search Console data shows people are finding your content through the query โhow to pose for photos.โ
That is practically a content brief handed to you.
Create a carousel called:
7 Easy Poses That Actually Look Natural in Photos
Or make a Reel demonstrating the poses.
You are not guessing.
You are responding to demonstrated search behaviour.
Improve your Instagram captions
Search engines need context to understand content.
Do not write captions that are beautiful but completely vague.
If your post is about photography composition, actually use natural language that explains what the post is about.
Instead of writing:
โSomewhere between light and shadow.โ
You could write:
โHere are five photography composition techniques I use when I want my photographs to feel more intentional.โ
You can still have personality.
You simply give Google more context.
Make your profile easier to understand
Your Instagram name, bio and content should communicate what you actually do.
If you are a photographer, make that clear.
If you teach photography, say so.
If you create travel content, communicate that.
Search engines need signals.
The clearer those signals are, the easier it is for platforms and search engines to understand your content.
Identify your high potential posts
Look for posts that receive lots of impressions but relatively few clicks.
These posts are interesting because Google is already showing them to people.
The opportunity may be improving the content so that the search result becomes more compelling.
You can also create a stronger version of the same topic.
High impressions with low clicks can be a clue that you have visibility but are not converting enough of that visibility into visits.
Google Search Console and Instagram Insights are not the same thing
This is extremely important.
Do not connect Instagram to Google Search Console expecting it to replace Instagram Analytics.
It does not.
Instagram Insights tells you how your content performs within Instagram.
Search Console tells you how your Instagram content performs when discovered through Google.
Google specifically states that platform properties only show how content performs on Google Search. They do not tell you how many times your content was shown to people inside Instagram itself.
Think of them as two different windows into your content.
Instagram tells you how your existing social audience behaves.
Google tells you how people who are actively searching discover you.
You want both.
Does connecting Instagram to Google Search Console improve your rankings?
No.
This is an important distinction.
Adding your Instagram account to Search Console does not automatically make your posts rank higher.
It is a measurement and insights tool.
The value comes from understanding your Google Search performance and using those insights to make better content decisions.
Google itself describes platform properties as a way to understand how your social and video content performs on Search, rather than as a ranking boost.
So think of Search Console as your dashboard, not a magic SEO button.
What if you cannot see Instagram as an option?
The good news is that this is no longer supposed to be a region limited feature.
Google announced on July 29, 2026 that platform properties were globally available.
If you still cannot find the Instagram option, first make sure you are using the current Search Console interface and that you are looking under Add Property.
If the option is still missing or the authorization process fails, check that you are signing into the correct Instagram account and that you have access to that account.
You may also need to reconnect the authorization if your external login session has expired. Google notes that platform ownership is periodically checked and that access can pause if the connection is lost.
How often should you check Google Search Console?
Please do not turn this into another daily analytics obsession.
Search data becomes much more useful when you look for patterns over time.
I would recommend checking your Instagram Search Console data periodically and asking:
Which topics are getting discovered?
Which posts are getting impressions?
Which searches are bringing people to me?
Which posts are getting clicks?
What topics appear repeatedly?
What can I create next based on this information?
That is a much healthier and more useful way to use analytics.
The bigger opportunity for creators
I think this update represents a bigger shift than simply giving creators another analytics dashboard.
For years, creators have been trained to think about Instagram content primarily in terms of the Instagram algorithm.
How do I get more reach?
How do I get more saves?
How do I get more shares?
How do I make the algorithm push my Reel?
Those things still matter.
But search introduces another way of thinking.
Instead of asking only:
What will perform on Instagram today?
Start asking:
What will still be useful when someone searches for this topic six months from now?
That is a completely different content strategy.
A good searchable Instagram post can potentially continue to be discovered after the initial Instagram distribution cycle is over.
And for educational creators, photographers, businesses and personal brands, that can be incredibly valuable.
Final thoughts
If you have an Instagram account that you are serious about growing, connecting Instagram to Google Search Console is one of those small setup tasks that can give you surprisingly useful information.
It takes very little time to set up.
But the insights can influence your entire content strategy.
You can discover what people are searching for.
You can see which Instagram posts are appearing in Google.
You can understand which topics are generating impressions.
You can identify content that is earning clicks.
And most importantly, you can stop relying entirely on guesswork.
The creators who build strong personal brands are not necessarily the ones who post the most.
They are the ones who pay attention to what their audience is actually telling them.
Sometimes that feedback comes through comments.
Sometimes it comes through saves and shares.
And now, increasingly, it can come through Google searches.
So connect your Instagram to Google Search Console, give the data a little time to build up and then start looking for patterns.
You might discover that people are already searching for the exact thing you are exceptionally good at creating.
And when you find that intersection between what you know, what you love creating and what people are actively searching for, that is where your content strategy gets really interesting.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need a website to connect Instagram to Search Console?
No. Instagram can now be added as a Platform Property, so creators can access Google Search performance data for their Instagram account without needing to use their website as a substitute.
Can I see which Google searches found my Instagram posts?
Yes. Search Console’s platform property reporting includes search queries that lead people to your platform content.
Does Google Search Console show my Instagram reach?
It shows Google Search performance, including impressions and clicks from Google. It does not replace Instagram’s own analytics or show how many people saw your content inside the Instagram app.
How long does it take for Instagram data to appear?
Google says newly created platform properties can take 48 hours for data to appear.
Can I connect more than one Instagram account?
Yes. If you manage multiple platform accounts, Google recommends adding each account as its own property so that you can track the performance of each account independently.
What is the biggest benefit of connecting Instagram to Google Search Console?
The biggest benefit is visibility into how your Instagram content is discovered through Google Search. You can use search queries, impressions, clicks and content performance to understand what people are actively searching for and use those insights to create smarter, more searchable content.
