Every time I thought about Japan, the first thing that came to my mind was the beautiful cherry blossoms near Mount Fuji. I had no idea that you could spot cherry blossoms in India too!
If you are an avid Instagram user, chances are that your introduction to cherry blossoms was also through the huge cherry blossom trees in Japan.
Every year in April, the entire country of Japan is painted pink and white by the cherry blossoms.
But if you want to experience the beauty of cherry blossoms, you can do that here in India too!
What are Cherry Blossoms?
Cherry blossoms are also called Japanese cherry and sakura. They are commonly found in East Asia like Korea, China, and especially in Japan.
A cherry blossom tree is in its full glory as the spring season arrives. The leaves of the flower are edible and are used in a number of traditional Japanese sweets and teas.
They’re even used in candies and cookies after they’re pickled
Japanese cherry trees can rise up to a height of 20-40 feet with the canopies as wide as 15-30 feet.

Where can you find Cherry Blossoms in India?
I went on a short trip to Manali in March 2021.
That’s where I spotted the cherry blossoms blossoming!
I’ve not seen many pictures of travelers from Himachal Pradesh posing with cherry blossoms. I guess not many people know about it and when is the best time to go see them.

With the onset of the spring season, cherry blossom trees can be seen in places like Kotgarh, Kandyali, Narkanda, etc.
I saw them while on a trek to Jogini Falls in Manali. The trek to Jogini Falls is not that difficult so beginners can do it as well.
April is the best month to see the cherry blossom in Himachal Pradesh. Cherry blossoms flower during this same time in European countries also.
Local farmers and residents have voiced their opinion that the state has the potential to attract tourists during this time and increase their revenue.
But as of now, cherry blossoms have not been promoted as a tourist attraction to lure in travelers.
“Unlike foreign countries, there is no provision to attract tourists to Himachal Pradesh during the cherry blossom season. So the tourism department must promote the season and encourage tourists to visit Himachal during the season,” said Naren Shahi, a travel agent.
