Step-by-step tutorial on how to add text or any overlay behind a person

Decide on what’s the overlay

The first step is to have everything on your phone ready to be edited.

You need either text or an overlay that you want to put behind a person.

Second, you need a video of your subject.

And since I’m going to tell you how to make this interesting edit on InShot – install it on your phone. (Android/iOS)

When you want to add overlay behind a person

Open the overlay video in InShot.

Go to PIP and select the video of the subject.

When your subject’s video is added on top of the overlay video, click on the cutout option.

InShot will automatically detect the person and create a cutout.

In the cutout option, you can choose either cutout or chroma.

The Chroma option works better if the video of the person has a single-colored background. Cutout works better when the background isn’t of a single color.

Add text on the video & make sure it’s over the person at some point

Make sure that the text is over the person at some point so that the effect of the text being behind a person shows up more vividly.

After you’re done with adding the text, export and save the video to your phone.

Now, start a new project and open the edited video with the text that you just exported.

Go to PIP and select the original video without text.

Choose the cutout option to separate yourself from the background.

And now your cutout will appear above the text you added!

That’s all!
