Actionable Tips To Write Better Structured Blogposts

One thing that is independent of your niche is that your content should be easily readable. It is the ultimate selling point. If it is easy to understand, what other things could go wrong? It is absolute bliss when I come across a blog that is easy to navigate through. In this post, I will be sharing tips to write better blog posts.

The people reading your blog want quick and effective answers to their questions, just like you yourself do. Create a conversation with your reader.

You might know a lot about a topic, but if you don’t present it in a way that is easily understandable, it’s potential will be limited. The readability of your content affects your SEO too.

If you are using the Yoast SEO plugin, which you absolutely should, you can the readability score of your blog post while you are drafting it.

So let’s take a quick look at some pointers you can keep in mind while writing your next blog post.

Listen to your reader’s likes and dislikes

How to do that? Check out your blog’s stats and see what kind of posts get the most views. If you’re on Instagram, you can post an Instagram story asking people what would they like to read about in the next blog post.

Another interactive way of knowing your reader’s likes by using polls. Post polls with 2-3 topics on your Facebook page. See which one gets the most votes.

From what I have seen, when you solve a problem or a common query, that post is generally more likely to perform well.

Read Read and Read

When you have decided what topic you are going to write about, first carry out your research. Read as much as you can. Gain knowledge about it, collect it, and present it in the best way.

You can read blogs, watch YouTube videos, every piece of content will have something new to share. It can also spark new ideas in your mind. Also, while you are reading content by other bloggers, you can sometimes spot some mistakes.

Notice and correct in your version of the information.

No clickbait in the title

It is quite repelling. When the title says something, and the content speaks is a totally different story. Keep the title of your blog post loud and clear.

So that people can know what exactly you have to offer. When someone is looking for help, there are not looking to get trapped by a clickbait. Use your keyword in the title and URL.

Make it easy to read

Apart from the title, use proper headings in your actual blog post’s content too. Headings make the content more scan-able. If someone is in a hurry, they can still scroll through your headings and get a gist of the post.

Use bullet points/lists where applicable. Insert quick facts and quotes to break the monotony. Infographics make your content more colorful and the info is easier to retain. Why?

Quick Fact

A striking characteristic of human memory is that pictures are remembered better than words. It was shown several decades ago that people can remember more than 2,000 pictures with at least 90% accuracy in recognition tests over a period of several days, even with short presentation times during the learning

Add a table of contents

If you have a WordPress blog, install the table of contents plugin right away (Easy Table of Contents). It adds a table of contents to each post. The content is listed in the form of headings used. Scroll up and see the table of content of this post.

You get the option to enable the insertion of the table either automatically or manually. Further customizations like the background color, text color is also available.

Use internal links for related posts

Make it as easy as possible for the reader to find what they might be interested in. For example, in a post that talks about SEO and its benefits, you should add internal links to a post that explains keywords and keyword research.

This will reduce the bounce rate of your site as people stay on your site for a longer time. Switching between different posts but staying on your site.

Use the link to text fragment extension of Google Chrome to link to a specific part of your post.

Write tidbits about your own experience

In order to make it sound like a conversation, throw in some tidbits about your own personal experience. It is always a welcoming feel to know that a human person wrote the piece you are reading. The reader gets a sense of connection to the author.

Add a About me page on your blog so that people can know more about the person running the blog. A friendly face goes a long way.

What about the featured image?

Select a picture which is relevant to the topic. Some sites to get free to use quality images are pexels, pixabay, unsplash and burst. It is not always necessary to write on your featured image. If you do, make sure it is easily readable.

You can do so by decreasing the brightness of the image so that the text pops out. I designed the feature image shown below on Canva. Add a box element, color it black and decrease its opacity to achieve a similar effect.
