how to make creative instagram stories

How To Make Instagram Stories More Creative

I don’t know about you but I spend quite a lot of time just swiping through Instagram stories. The ones which are creative and not so common always make me stop swiping to have a closer look.

I follow Rhea on Instagram, her stories are aesthetic and the color combinations she uses are pleasing to the eyes. Head on to her profile to check out the kind of stories she posts.

Instagram stories are a great way to bring in more audience on your profile. If you see someone put a creative and aesthetic story, you are more likely to remember who they are.

Also, such stories create a sense of curiosity. People might reply to your stories asking you how you made it or just tell you they love it.

In the end, it is all about making human connections. Whenever you are thinking what to post on your stories, think of why do you open Instagram in the first place?

Most people come to Instagram for a relaxed, chill time to see how their friends are doing or see creative content that inspires them.

Keep this in mind whenever you’re confused about what to post about. If your Instagram stories have a happy and aesthetic vibes it will lift the mood of the viewer.

And that’s all we want. Spread happiness.

Instagram is a business too, that’s an undeniable fact. But it is also important to remember that this business is done with people who are like you and me.

Everyone appreciates a little hard work and creativity.

So, now that we have talked about why our Instagram stories should be more creative. Let’s get to the how part so that you can grow on Instagram.

5 Ways to make unique & engaging Instagram Stories

Post informational/fun polls

If your story has a call-to-action, it is instantly a more engaging option. For example, I am a Photographer and Blogger.

I can post polls related to these topics. The polls can be either informative or just plain fun.

You can play the game of never have I ever, this or that, would you rather with your Instagram viewers.

Here are some Instagram poll ideas:

Use templates for a consistent style

Build up a consistent style for your Instagram stories. This will make people recognize and remember your profile.

When we see similar kinds of things often, we remember them. Take KFC for example. Red and white are their brand colors. Their logo has that old man.

And that old man appears in almost all posters, ads and online brand videos. Whenever you see that man, you can immediately recognize its KFC. This is what is called building a brand image.

I highly recommend you try out Instagram story templates on Canva. All the graphic design related work is already done for you.

Aesthetic color palettes, animations, stickers, and everything is curated very well. You just have to add text and your pictures to customize them.

Some of the apps that I recommend other than Canva, for creating Instagram stories are Over, Inshot, Graphionica, Adobe Spark, Unfold & PicsArt.

Quick fact: 500 million people use Stories every day, with more than one-third of the most viewed stories being posted by businesses.

I have created a Pinterest board where I have saved all the different kinds of Instagram story ideas. Check it out here.

Add quirky animated elements

Even if you are not a graphic designer, there are easy ways to add some quirky animations to your Instagram stories.

The quickest way is to use GIFs available on Instagram itself. Not the usual ones that everyone uses.

There are some aesthetic line arts, doodle and handwritten GIFs which you can use. I posted about this in one of my IGTV videos, here it is:

You can also add animations using the apps Over, Inshot, Adobe Spark and Canva. They have options to add animated elements, some of them are free while some might be in the pro version.

I created this animated carousel post using Inshot and Canva. You can design stories in the same way.

Add a background photo while sharing a post on your story

This one’s a hack. Usually, when you share a post from your Instagram feed to your story, the amount of customization that you can do is limited to the background color and text.

But there is a way using which you can add a background image while sharing a post on your Instagram story.

It is a bit easier for iOS users. You can use the copy & paste feature you get when you press the option to share an image.

Hit copy and hit paste while you’re typing on your story.

For Android users, you need the Gbox keyboard installed. This keyword has the option to add images, embedded in the keyboard itself.

Here’s a video tutorial on how to do this:

Answer questions

Your followers might have some questions for you. Use the question feature on Instagram stories to let your story viewers send in their questions.

Later on, you can answer these questions either in the form of text on stories or post videos of yourself answering them.

If sometimes people are asking the same question repeatedly, create a FAQ Highlight and add your answers to that.

Now whenever that question is asked, you can simply point people to have a look at the highlights.
