Are you still struggling to create reels that have cuts on beats? Are you still not completely comfortable with using reel templates? Learn how to edit reels using templates.
With the new feature of reel templates, it is now easier than ever to create reels that have cuts on beats.
You can literally make a trendy viral-worthy reel in less than 5 minutes!
But using a template alone doesn’t mean that the resulting reel video will look great.
Take hints from the reel that had the template, did it have text on it? For example, name of the month, or text like – day out, grwm, etc.
Also, hey! I’ve designed and curated a collection of 35 aesthetic text overlays that you can use on different kinds of reels. Check it out here.
Reels template has made it super easy for creators whose content was not video-first if that makes sense to you?
What I mean to say is, if you’re a baker or a small biz owner, making videos isn’t one of your primary skills.
But now with the reel templates, you can create reels that are trendy in a lesser amount of time. This gives you more time on your hands to do other things related to running your own small biz.
Let’s learn how to use reel templates and create an amazing reel in under 5 minutes.

How to edit reels using templates on Instagram: The EASIEST way!
Step#1 – How to find reel templates on Instagram
When you’re on the explore tab or reels tab swiping through reels, pay attention to this little detail.
Just above the username, you will see a ‘use template’ button.
Click on it and you will see a page open up which has different clips listed below along with the duration of each.
Now this ‘use template’ button doesn’t show up on all the reels on Instagram.
Why?
The use template option is available only on those Instagram reels that the original creator of the reel has edited in the Instagram app itself.
If the creator edited the video on another third-party editing app like InShot (which I love!) or on desktop software, the use template feature won’t be available on it.
Did you know that you can edit split-screen video edits on the InShot app? Here’s a quick tutorial that I promise will break the editing process down for you in the easiest way possible.
In short, the reel has had to be edited on the Instagram app itself for it to have a template that other Instagram users can use to create reels in a jiffy.
Step#2 – Import photos/videos to create reels
You can import either photos or videos. You can re-order them but that will mess up the cuts on beats.
As you can see in the screenshot above, the template shows different clips and their duration.
First, three clips (photo or video) are 0.9 seconds long, 4th one is 0.6 seconds long, and so on.
It is not possible to change the song when using reel templates.

Step#3 – Adjust the individual video clips to create the final reel
In order to import photos or videos, simply tap on multiple media that you want to use and a blue circle will appear on it.
It highlights how many clips you’ve selected. (Look at the clips which I’ve marked with a red colored tick)
When a video is imported, by default Instagram trims the video from the beginning.
But if the better part of the video clip lies later in the clip, you can simply tap on that clip.
A white cursor that highlights which part of the video is being used will show up. (Refer to the screenshot above)
Hold this cursor and move it around to find the perfect part of your video that you want to use.
This option will obviously not be valid for photos since they are displayed statically as it is.

An added benefit of reels templates that I bet you didn’t think of
When I first realized this benefit, I made sure to try and edit most of the reels on the Instagram app itself to get the most out of them.
Let’s look into it. For instance, you come across a reel that is on trending audio, has cuts on beats (or most cuts on beats), and has the ‘use template’ button on it.
What will you do?
You will save it! or share it with a friend who might want to use that template and edit their own version of it.
The more saves and shares your reel gets, the better it is.
As this sends a signal to the Instagram algorithm that people are liking your content and then it will push it to more people.
And your reel will gain more traction.
