Hotel Collaborations for Creators: Proven Ways to Pitch Hotels, Win Deals and Get Hired

How do people actually get these hotel collaborations?

If you’re a content creator, photographer, travel blogger or influencer, you have probably seen creators posting beautiful hotel rooms, infinity pools, breakfast spreads and beautifully shot hotel experiences and wondered:

How do you get hotels to approach you instead of constantly pitching them?

There is a lot more to hotel collaborations than sending an Instagram DM saying, โ€œHi, I would love to collaborate with your hotel in exchange for a stay.โ€

That approach might occasionally work, but if you want to work with luxury hotels, resorts and hospitality brands, you need to start thinking like a creative professional rather than someone asking for a complimentary stay.

Hotels are not simply giving away rooms. They are investing inventory, marketing resources and access in exchange for something they believe will help their business.

That could be exposure to your audience.

It could be professional photography.

It could be short form video.

It could be Instagram Reels and Stories.

It could be a blog article that ranks in Google.

It could be UGC that the hotel can use on its own social media.

Or, ideally, it could be a combination of these.

Current hotel collaboration guidance consistently points towards the same fundamental shift: successful pitches focus on what the creator can deliver for the property rather than simply asking for a free stay. Hotels also increasingly value professional visual assets and content they can use beyond a creator’s own social channels.

And this is exactly where professional photographers and content creators have an advantage.

If you can create beautiful, commercially useful hotel photography and video while also giving the property exposure through your own audience, you are not just an influencer asking for accommodation.

You are offering a marketing asset.

What Is a Hotel Collaboration?

four points by shertaon bangkok review

A hotel collaboration is a partnership between a hotel or hospitality brand and a creator where both sides agree on what each party will provide.

The arrangement can take several forms.

1. Unpaid/barter collaboration

The hotel provides complimentary accommodation, meals, experiences or other inclusions, while the creator provides agreed content.

2. Paid hotel collaboration

The hotel pays the creator a fee for content creation, social media promotion or both, accomodation, meals, travel, experiences etc remain complimentary

3. UGC collaboration

The creator produces photographs or videos specifically for the hotel’s own marketing, without necessarily posting the content to their own audience.

Content creation and influencer marketing are not the same thing.

A hotel might want 20 beautiful photographs for its Instagram account even if it does not need access to your 200,000 followers.

Another hotel might want a Reel posted to your account because it wants your audience to discover the property.

Those are two completely different services and should be priced and negotiated differently.

Here’s my collaboration posts with Neem Sarai Sariska, a luxury nature resort in Alwar, Rajasthan:

What Do Hotels Actually Want From Content Creators?

This is probably the most important thing to understand before you send your first hotel collaboration pitch.

Hotels don’t necessarily care about your follower count as much as creators think they do.

A large following can certainly be valuable, but the bigger question is:

What can you create that the hotel can actually use?

Hotels may be looking for:

  • Professional hotel photography
  • Room and suite photography
  • Food and beverage photography
  • Lifestyle imagery
  • Instagram Reels
  • Short form video
  • UGC
  • Instagram Stories
  • Destination content
  • Blog coverage
  • Search friendly travel content
  • Social media exposure
  • Content for paid advertising
  • Content for the hotel’s website
  • Seasonal campaign content
  • Event coverage
  • Pool and property imagery
  • Restaurant content
  • Experience based storytelling

That is why a creator with 20,000 highly relevant followers and exceptional photography can sometimes be more useful to a hotel than a creator with 500,000 followers whose audience has little connection to the hotel’s target market.

Here’s the carousel & reel from my collaboration with ITC Mughal Agra, which was a mixture of – professional hotel photography, experience-based storytelling and season campaign content.

Before You Pitch a Hotel, Make Your Profile Irresistible

This is where many creators make a mistake.

They start pitching hotels before their Instagram profile actually looks like the kind of account a luxury hotel would want associated with its brand.

If you want luxury hotel collaborations, your profile needs to communicate luxury hospitality content before you have the luxury hotel collaboration.

That doesn’t mean your entire Instagram account needs to become hotel reviews.

It means the visual language needs to show that you know how to photograph and film beautiful spaces.

Build a Hotel Ready Portfolio

JW Marriott Mussoorie Walnut Grove Resort & Spa, hotel collaborations for content creators

Your portfolio should ideally include:

  • Beautiful interiors
  • Architecture
  • Bedrooms and suites
  • Restaurants
  • Food and drinks
  • Lifestyle moments
  • Property details

If you don’t have hotel collaborations yet, create this portfolio yourself.

Stay at a beautiful property on your own.

Ask a local boutique hotel if you can shoot a small set of images.

Create content.

Photograph a restaurant.

Shoot an Airbnb or heritage property.

The objective is to show a prospective hotel:

โ€œThis is what your property could look like through my lens.โ€

That is much more persuasive than saying, โ€œI am a photographer and I would love to collaborate.โ€

Here’s the carousel & reel I did for JW Marriott Mussoorie Walnut Grove Resort & Spa. The objective was to showcase the entire experience at the property through cinematic visuals –

What Kind of Hotel Photography Should You Create?

If you want hotels to hire you for content creation, don’t photograph a hotel like a tourist.

Photograph it like a brand asset.

You need a mixture of imagery.

  • Hero images – Grand entrance, Architectural exterior, Pool at golden hour, Signature suite, Restaurant interior, Beautiful balcony view
  • Details – Bed linen, room details, flowers, table settings, bathroom amenities, texture, lighting, decor
  • Experiential images – Walking through the property, sitting by the pool, ordering coffee, breakfast in bed, getting ready in the suite, enjoying a spa, dining at the restaurant

Hotel Videography Is Becoming Just as Important

If you want to make yourself particularly attractive to hotels, learn how to create short form video.

A strong hotel Reel could include:

Exterior โ†’ entrance โ†’ lobby โ†’ room โ†’ bathroom โ†’ amenities โ†’ food โ†’ experience โ†’ sunset โ†’ final hotel shot

But don’t make every Reel a generic room tour.

Think about storytelling.

For example:

โ€œ48 hours at a heritage hotel in Jaipurโ€

or

โ€œA slow morning at one of Delhi’s most beautiful hotelsโ€

or

โ€œWhat a weekend at a luxury resort actually looks likeโ€

Hotels need content that makes people want to be there.

That is the difference between documentation and marketing.

How to Pitch Hotels for Collaborations

Now let’s get to the part most creators are actually searching for:

How do you pitch hotels for collaborations?

First, find the right person.

Don’t always send your carefully written pitch to:

[email protected]

Look for:

  • Marketing Director
  • Marketing Manager
  • PR Manager
  • Communications Manager
  • Social Media Manager
  • Brand Manager
  • Director of Marketing
  • Public Relations agency
  • Influencer marketing contact

Many hotels also have dedicated media or influencer enquiry forms.

Major hotel groups may have dedicated accommodation request processes, so checking the hotel’s website before sending a generic pitch is worthwhile.

If you cannot find the right contact, send the hotel a short Instagram DM asking for the appropriate email address.

Don’t send your entire pitch through Instagram.

Something as simple as:

Hi! I would love to connect with the person handling your hotel’s marketing and creator collaborations. Could you please point me in the right direction? Thank you!

Then send the professional pitch by email.

Here’s the collaboration posts I did with Glasshouse Celeste by SaffronStays which has been recognized as India’s Favourite Villa at the MakeMyTrip Homestay Awards 2026.

What Should a Hotel Collaboration Pitch Include?

Your pitch should answer five questions very quickly:

  • Who are you?
  • Why this hotel?
  • Why are you a good fit?
  • What exactly are you proposing?
  • Your travel dates
  • Whether you’re travelling with a +1
  • What does the hotel receive?
  • Don’t send your entire biography.

Hotels are busy.

A concise, personalised pitch is far more effective than a 1,500 word email explaining your entire career.

A Simple Hotel Collaboration Pitch Example

Subject: Content Collaboration Proposal for [Hotel Name]

Hi [Name],

I’m Garima, a professional photographer and content creator based in India. I create photography, video and social content around travel, hospitality, lifestyle and visual storytelling, with an audience of [insert relevant audience information].

I’ve been following [Hotel Name] and particularly love [specific detail about the property].

I’d love to explore a collaboration where I create a curated set of professional photographs and short form video during my stay, alongside content shared with my audience through Instagram and my website.

My proposed deliverables could include:

โ€ข [X] Instagram Reel

โ€ข [X] Instagram Stories

โ€ข [X] curated photographs

โ€ข [X] blog feature

I would be happy to tailor the content package around your current marketing priorities.

You can view examples of my work here:

I’d love to explore whether this could be a good fit for the property.

Best,
Garima

Notice what this pitch does not say.

It doesn’t begin with:

โ€œCan you give me a complimentary stay?โ€

It begins with:

Here is what I can create for you.

That subtle change in positioning can make a substantial difference.

How to Negotiate a Hotel Collaboration

Never assume that โ€œfree stayโ€ means the collaboration has no monetary value.

A hotel room has value.

Your time has value.

Your photography has value.

Your video has value.

Your audience has value.

Your intellectual property has value.

And your usage rights have value.

So before agreeing to anything, establish exactly what is being exchanged.

Ask:

  • What is the hotel providing?
  • How many nights?
  • What room category?
  • Are meals included?
  • Are experiences included?
  • How many people are included?
  • What content is expected?
  • Where will you publish it?
  • When must it be delivered?
  • How long can the hotel use the content?
  • Can the hotel use the content for paid advertising?
  • Can the hotel edit the content?
  • Can the hotel give it to third parties?

These questions aren’t being difficult. They are being professional.

What Should You Give a Hotel for Free?

This is where I would encourage creators to become much more intentional.

If you’re receiving a hosted stay, you might agree to provide:

  • A certain number of Stories
  • One Reel
  • A few selected photographs
  • A blog mention
  • Organic social media exposure

But don’t automatically give away everything you create.

There is a difference between:

Deliverables

and

Usage rights.

This distinction is crucial.

Suppose you photograph 100 images during a hotel stay.

The hotel receives five edited photographs as part of the agreed collaboration.

That does not automatically mean it owns the other 95 photographs.

It also does not automatically mean it can use those five photographs in paid advertising, print campaigns, billboards, brochures or third party booking platforms.

Those are separate commercial uses.

Copyright & Usage Rights for Hotel Collaborations

This is one of the most important sections of this entire guide.

As a photographer, you should understand the difference between creating content and transferring ownership or licensing usage.

In many jurisdictions, copyright initially belongs to the creator unless the applicable law or a contract says otherwise. The exact legal position varies by country and contract, so for a substantial commercial campaign, get professional legal advice rather than relying on a generic internet template.

For practical purposes, think about your content in terms of a licence.

You might give the hotel permission to use selected photographs:

On its organic Instagram account for six months.

That’s one type of licence.

You might instead license the photographs:

Across the hotel’s website and organic social media for one year.

That’s another.

Paid advertising is different.

If the hotel wants to use your photograph in Meta ads, Google ads, print advertising or a large campaign, that should be discussed and priced separately.

Never casually say โ€œYou can use all the photos anywhere.โ€

That sentence can create a much bigger commercial obligation than you intended.

Instead, be specific.

For example:

โ€œThe agreed deliverables include five edited images licensed for the hotel’s organic social media channels for six months. Paid advertising, print, third party licensing and perpetual usage can be quoted separately.โ€

That is far more professional.

What Should You Charge for Usage Rights?

There is no universal rate.

Your fee depends on:

โ€ข Your experience

โ€ข Your audience

โ€ข Your photography quality

โ€ข Number of assets

โ€ข Production complexity

โ€ข Location

โ€ข Number of deliverables

โ€ข Duration of usage

โ€ข Platforms

โ€ข Geographic territory

โ€ข Organic versus paid usage

โ€ข Exclusivity

โ€ข Whether the hotel can edit the content

โ€ข Whether third parties can use it

The important principle is:

The content creation fee and usage fee do not necessarily have to be the same thing.

If a hotel wants you to create ten photographs for its Instagram account, that’s one proposition.

If it wants those same ten photographs for its website, booking platform, print brochure and paid advertising campaign for three years, that is a much broader commercial licence.

Don’t give the latter away accidentally because you were excited about getting a complimentary stay.

What About Instagram Posts?

This should also be negotiated clearly.

A hotel might request:

One Reel + three Stories + one carousel.

Great.

But clarify:

When will you post?

Does the hotel approve the content?

Can they request edits?

Do they need to be tagged?

Can they repost it?

Can they use it as an ad?

How long must the post remain live?

For organic reposting, you can establish clear terms.

For example:

โ€œHotel may repost the published Instagram content organically on its owned social channels with creator credit. Paid amplification and advertising usage are excluded unless separately licensed.โ€

That one sentence can prevent a lot of ambiguity.

Don’t Give Unlimited Revisions

This is particularly important for professional photography and video.

If you’re creating content for a hotel, define what is included.

For example:

One reasonable round of revisions.

Not:

Unlimited changes until the marketing team is happy.

Otherwise, a simple Reel can turn into an endless production cycle involving five different people from the hotel.

Your time is part of the cost.

The Difference Between Influencer Content and UGC

This is another distinction creators should understand.

Influencer content

You create content and publish it to your audience.

The hotel benefits from your reach, credibility and audience.

UGC

You create content for the hotel to use on its own channels.

The hotel is essentially hiring you as a content creator.

You don’t necessarily need to post it to your audience.

That means a creator with a relatively small audience can still work with luxury hotels if they have exceptional production skills.

This is one of the biggest opportunities for photographers.

You don’t need to sell only:

โ€œI have X followers.โ€

You can sell:

โ€œI can create a library of premium visual assets that make your property look exceptional online.โ€

Final Thoughts on Hotel Collaborations

The hotel collaboration landscape has changed.

It is no longer simply about having a large Instagram following and asking hotels for free stays.

Creators can bring far more value to hospitality brands.

They can be photographers.

Videographers.

Writers.

Editors.

Storytellers.

Influencers.

UGC creators.

SEO publishers.

And marketers.

The strongest hotel collaborations combine several of these skills.

If you are a content creator trying to land your first hotel collaboration, start by making your portfolio impossible to ignore.

If you are already established, stop giving away unlimited deliverables simply because a hotel offers a complimentary room.

And if you’re a hotel looking for creators, don’t just ask:

โ€œHow many followers do you have?โ€

Ask:

โ€œWhat can this creator create for our brand, and where can we use it?โ€

That is where the real value of creator and hotel collaborations lies.

And if you’re a luxury hotel, resort or hospitality brand looking for someone who can combine professional photography, cinematic video, Instagram storytelling and editorial content, that is exactly the kind of collaboration I am interested in creating.

You can explore more of my photography and content work on Instagram and my portfolio.

The goal isn’t simply to make a hotel look beautiful.

It is to create imagery and stories that make someone want to be there.
