If you’ve come here from my Instagram account @garimashares, you would have seen the reels I post on my profile. Most of them are shot around Delhi. In this post, I’m going to tell you about 7 places to shoot in Delhi.
Videos and photos from my travels make it on my travel-centric account @garimatravels.
Delhi is rich in culture and has so much to offer—everything from the old lanes of Chandni Chowk to the capturing planes flying above the Qutub Minar.
My precious gear consists of a Sony A7III with a 28-70mm lens, a Viltrox 85mm f/1.8 lens, a GoPro Hero 8 (which I feel I’m neglecting since I moved from Android to iPhone), and an iPhone 13.
Let me tell you about all of the places you can visit in Delhi as an aspiring Photographer. (If you’re too good of a Photographer, honestly, any place is a good place!)

Discover 7 Captivating Places To Shoot In Delhi
India Gate
The best time to shoot at India Gate and around is either early in the morning or during the golden hour.
Reach India Gate during the sunrise hours to capture its beauty without any crowd. The place truly looks picturesque in the soft morning light, lush green surroundings, and not a single person to be seen around, or any of the numerous vendors.
I would recommend reaching India Gate around 5:30-6:00 AM to make the best out of it. The sky is a pretty shade of blue with a hint of yellow from the sunrise.
Most people see India Gate during the peak hours when it’s crowded. So, when you shoot photos and videos of it in a totally different setting with the empty ground around it, it will get more views. Shoot aesthetic videos to your heart’s content!
Quite opposite to the morning, in the evening you’ll get different kinds of views and scenes to shoot at India Gate.
There are people around, families, friends, enjoying some street food, balloon sellers and so much more. If you like shooting stories through your camera, you’ll want to shoot in the evening more than in the morning.
Take your time to look around and explore. See the tiny details, those small moments that people walking by often overlook.
A balloon seller fixing his balloons, someone serving bhelpuri to a family, a kid giggling and blowing bubbles into the air. There are stories to be captured all around.
Connaught Place
Connaught Place is the heart of Delhi. It gets pretty crowded in the evening but that doesn’t mean that you can’t shoot around the place.
There are a lot of little details to capture. It looks great at night with all of the store’s and cafe’s lights. Perfect place for shooting some night-time cinematic portraits or street photos, if you’re into that.
You can shoot a great time-lapse or a long exposure of the traffic at night in Connaught Place.
Here is what I have shot in Connaught Place.
Chandni Chowk
It’s no surprise that Chandni Chowk is a haven for the street photographer/videographer in you.
But if you’re just starting out, it can be a bit daunting. The place is jam-packed most of the time. You need to be extra careful of your belongings.
When going to shoot in Chandni Chowk on a hot summer day or morning, always carry a bottle of water. Avoid buying bottled water whenever possible to reduce your plastic waste.
Don’t carry any valuable items other than your gear. You don’t want to be concerned about many things at once. Always, always wear your camera’s strap. Don’t shoot with the camera in your hands freely. Better be safe than sorry!
To really capture the essence of Chandni Chowk, you will need to beat the shopper’s crowd and get inside lanes to be able to see heritage havelis and the oldest of the shops.

Safdarjung & Humayun’s Tomb
You will be surprised to see how empty Safardjung Tomb is early in the morning. I once went to shoot there around 7:00 AM and it felt like I had the whole space booked out for myself. You can hear the birds chirping against the majestic Tomb.
It truly looks beautiful! Sunset time is also a good time to visit although you will have to manage with a bit of the crowd.
When the lights light up at night, the Tomb’s beauty multiplies.
Here is what I have shot in Safdarjung Tomb.
Lodhi Garden
Lodhi Garden is one of the most popular places for a photo shoot in Delhi.
A lot of pre-wedding, maternity and portrait photographers can be spotted around the Lodhi Garden. (including me!)
Golden hour light sifted through the trees in Lodhi Garden makes for the perfect backdrop for portraits. Paired with a prime lens, you will get a beautiful bokeh in your pictures. Here are some portraits I shot in Lodhi Garden,
The golden hour also shows up beautifully in videos. There’s a variety of backdrops you can get in Lodhi Garden – trees, flowers, an open field, a small pond, ducks, a tomb, etc.
During summers it can get extremely hot and uncomfortable for both you and your model/team. I’d suggest going there only early in the morning or when the sun starts to set.
It’s obviously much nicer to shoot in winter, starting around the month of October when the sunlight and humidity are low.
Here is what I have shot in Lodhi Garden.

Khan Market
I personally, like shooting in Khan Market in the evening/night. It is Delhi’s most expensive market, where you can find big brand names like Torani, Label by Ritu Kumar, Ogaan, and more.

Lodhi Art District
Nestled in the middle of a neighbourhood in central Delhi, the Lodhi Art District is a place that doesn’t need an introduction. Its walls are painted off-white and covered in colourful graffiti that tells stories of vibrancy and history.
If you’ve been around this area before, you’ll know exactly what we mean. The graffiti is so unique and eye-catching that you could spend hours just walking around, looking at the art, taking pictures, and posing in front of it all!
The transformation of Lodhi Colony into an art district has led to an increase in footfall from not only local residents but also tourists and international dignitaries. It has added a unique dimension to Delhi’s cultural landscape, showcasing the intersection of contemporary art with historical architecture.
