I love a good American breakfast! And I’m always on the lookout for a place for American breakfast, especially the classic full American breakfast.
A full American breakfast plate generally consists of the following things:
- Choice of eggs (scrambled, omelet, sunny side up, etc.)
- Bacon – Crispy bacon slices made from cured pork belly
- Chicken sausage
- Toasted bread – Toasted bread slices served with condiments like butter and jam
- Pancakes – Fluffy pancakes paired with maple syrup, fruit toppings, whipped cream
- Hash brown
- Baked beans
- Grilled tomatoes
- Mushrooms
- Choice of beverage (tea, coffee, juice, etc.)

Thank the German immigrants to introduce sausages and pancakes. British for adding tea & toast.
The history of the full American breakfast can be traced back to the early settlers in North America.
In the 17th and 18th centuries, breakfast was considered the most substantial meal of the day (It still is). It typically consisted of hearty dishes that provided energy for the labor-intensive activities of the time.
Early American breakfasts often included items like smoked or salted meats (such as bacon or ham), eggs, various breads (such as biscuits or cornbread), porridge, and sometimes fish.
These ingredients were readily available and could be sourced locally.
Over time, the full American breakfast evolved to reflect the diverse culinary influences of different immigrant groups.

For example, German immigrants introduced sausages and pancakes, while British settlers brought their love for tea and toast.
In the 19th and early 20th centuries, the Industrial Revolution brought changes to breakfast habits.
As urbanization increased and work schedules became more regimented, breakfast became a simpler and quicker meal. Cereal grains, including oats and cornflakes, gained popularity as convenient options.
Also, cereal grains and oats became popular because they made the job easier for moms. Helped the kids become independent about their breakfast meal.
However, the tradition of a full American breakfast endured. It became a symbol of comfort, indulgence, and leisure, especially during weekends and holidays.
Today, the full American breakfast often includes a combination of eggs (fried, scrambled, or poached), bacon or sausage, toast or biscuits, pancakes or waffles, and a variety of sides like hash browns, fruit, or yogurt.

My review of the cafe – My newly discovered place for American breakfast
A short story of how I found it in the first place
I stumbled upon this cafe on the Zomato app. Because I literally search for places to eat nearby a night before I’ve plans to go out.
I had an early morning shoot at Humayun’s Tomb one day and wanted a place close by that served not just any breakfast, but the full legit American breakfast.
This cafe, American Brew in Defence Colony is barely 4 km away from Humayun’s Tomb.
Plus it cafe has (or had at the time) 20% off on the total bill for Zomato Gold users. So, I couldn’t resist giving it a shot.
I was already sold looking at the pictures of their dishes and interior on the app.
Honestly, it was a bit surprising that I hadn’t heard of the place before anywhere on Instagram.
Since Instagram is my livelihood and I spent so much time on it, great cafes keep popping up on my explore tab.
Food at All American Brew
The Classic American breakfast was delicious. It comes with a choice of egg, Pancake, Tea/Coffee/Juice, Bacon Rashes/Chicken Sausage, Toast, Hash Browns, Grilled Tomato, sauteed mushrooms, and Butter and marmalade.
The toasts were crispy and buttery. The omelette was bouncy and soft. The salad was super fresh and the cherry tomatoes in it were very sweet.
Hash browns were great, just like the pancake. But now that I see the dish on the menu and in the photos on Zomato, they didn’t give me the sauteed mushrooms 🙁
Will check that out when I visit them the next time.
With tender, seasoned chicken each bite of the Chicken Sandwich harmoniously blends flavours and textures. Impeccably presented and satisfying in size, it’s a must-try for anyone seeking an unforgettable, top-tier chicken sandwich experience.
I didn’t choose to have juice because fresh juices weren’t available, only canned juices.
I have tried their Winter Slush & Pink Lemonade which were both amazing. They were quite refreshing. You can taste hints of lime, cinnamon and blueberry in Winter Slush.
