MG Hector, The Internet Car of The Future We Needed

Morris Garages is all set to debut in India with the much awaited MG Hector. The British company is introducing its concept of connected mobility or ‘Internet of Cars’ with MG Hector.

The launch is expected somewhere around May but in a recent conference in Delhi on April 2, MG Motor India revealed the key features of its upcoming smart car.

In the conference, MG Motors gave an idea about what services and features it is introducing in the car. The company has partnered with a number of Global technology companies ,Cisco, Nuance, Unlimit, Microsoft, TomTom, Accuweather, iTelligence, SAP, Gaana, Cognizant, Adobe etc in designing the feature-packed car.

The car comes with an impressive head unit of 10.4 inches which is bigger than most tablets available currently. It is packed with convenient entertainment features about which will be discussed in depth later as we go forward.

It is the world’s first car to come with an embedded Machine to Machine (M2M) Esim which supports 5G even before it has officially arrived in India. The esim has been designed working with Unlimit and Cisco with Airtel being the telecom partner.

How is MG Hector the Internet Car

MG Hector comes with an in-built integrated solution called the iSmart Next Gen. It enables it to understand and follow voice commands like a virtual assistant. The car is always connected to the Internet and can even be controlled remotely through a mobile application.

The Operating System has been designed by MG India to improve user experiences by incorporating technologies like Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning for better safety and security.

OTA (Over the air) updates similar to smartphones

Its OS gets updated on its own just as in your smartphone. You won’t have to drive to the service center to get it updated.

This feature is arriving in India for the first time. The integrated system will receive updates periodically. These updates include new features, cyber security and timely upgrades.

AI based Voice Assistant

Struggling to find a good place to eat? Just ask your assistant without taking your hands off the steering wheel. You don’t even have to pick up your phone and search for it.

The voice assistant, Hello MG has been built for MG India by Nuance. It can customize and update itself over time learning from the user through advanced AI enabled Machine Learning.

It has been trained to efficiently understand Indian English accent and can understand up to 100 voice commands like radio controls, open window, sun roof etc.

Up-to-date Navigation by TomTom

Gone are those days when we used to call up someone when we couldn’t decide which direction to drive in.

But what I have experienced quite a number of times is that the maps aren’t updated sometimes. It just shows you the way, ignoring the road blocks and new buildings that might have come up.

This problem has been solved by the embedded maps and navigation solution from TomTom in MG Hector iSmart.

The navigation data is updated in real time with the help of 600 million vehicles around the globe. The map first updates the area where you usually commute and later expands to the farther regions. Smart, isn’t it?

Music with Gaana Premium Account in MG Hector

Offering the owners the access to the largest collection of latest songs and customized playlist, the MG Hector iSmart will come with a preloaded premium account of Gaana.

Gaana has made customization to take the advantage of the big 10.4 inches head unit to offer more screen space to select songs and create playlists.

Your data is safe with your MG Hector

All the data revolving around the user and the vehicle is protected by Microsoft Azure Cloud which provides is one of the biggest cloud services in the world.

The data will be stored locally in the Microsoft Azure DC in India. It is protected by a multi layered security system against highest standards of cyber threats.

E-Call feature for enhanced security during mishaps

E-Call feature is an instant emergency response system. In case of an accident, when the airbags open up, E-call is automatically initiated.

The exact location is sent to the response team of the customer care centre and the car’s head unit is called to get live updates from the people inside the car.

If no reply is received, the emergency contact set is contacted.

Remotely access your car using the iSmart Mobile App

Owners can easily access their car using the iSmart Mobile App. The app scans the car provides information such as its speed, health and location.

Here are some of the things you can do through the App,

• Vehicle scanning to check pre-defined parameters
• Check fuel-level and vehicle range
• Lock and unlock the car
• Find my car, using honking or blinking lights
• Create a travel and send it to the head unit of the vehicle
• Get speed alerts
• MG Network information

Initially, only a five-seater will be available, priced expectedly around the Rs 16 to 20 lakh mark when it launches sometime within the next three months.
