Adding Subtitles To Instagram Reels Is Important

Adding subtitles to Instagram reels is important to make your content accessible to all users.

It’s no secret that video-format content is running like fire on Instagram.

And Instagram reels are definitely the most viewed kind of video content on the social media app.

Adding subtitles to Instagram reels makes them more accessible to users as they can understand what you’re saying in the video even if the volume is turned down.

Not to forget, it’s so much more helpful and considerate towards users who might have some kind of hearing disability.

So, adding subtitles is more a need than a trend you should follow.

How to add subtitles to Instagram reels

Auto captions on the Instagram app

Instagram has a feature that lets you add auto-generated captions on your stories and reels. It was introduced mid-2021, in 16 languages.

Unfortunately, that feature hasn’t been rolled out to everyone as of now, that’s why I don’t have access to it.

You can check if you’ve it by going to stickers and looking for a sticker that says ‘captions’. Try to update your app and see if you get it then.

If you’ve got the captions feature here’s how you can use it-

Open the Instagram app and go to the part where you’ve uploaded your reel and are watching the preview.

Go to stickers and tap on the captions sticker that looks like in the picture above.

It will take a few seconds. After which the captions will be auto-generated. There a few options available for the style of captions you want to add.

Choose your favorite and it’s done!

In some countries, you even get feature of adding your own typed-out captions on Instagram reels.

It’s available in English-speaking countries.

Add captions to Instagram reels using Inshot app

Inshot app has the feature that lets you add text over your videos. Most video editing apps have this but I prefer doing it on Inshot because I’ve been using it for years and have build a habit for it.

Open the Inshot app and select the video to which you want to add subtitles.

Go to the text option and start typing out the captions.

To keep the captions identical, copy the text and then type the next content instead of adding a new text, setting the size, color & everything again.

I tried a few free apps for adding subtitles to Instagram reels and honestly, I just liked one.

I’m not saying I’ve tried every app out there, but out of the ones I did try, the ‘Kaptioned’ app was pretty accurate in generating subtitles.
