Here’s a little story I’d like you to read to understand the above quote by Wayne Dyer.
There is a power cut in your house, it’s all dark. You’ve to go meet some friends but you can’t find where your phone is. You start looking around the house in darkness and you realize you are not going to find it in so much of darkness, you need light.
So, what you do is, you step out of your house and go searching for your phone under the streetlights. Why? Because there’s light there! Seems very stupid right? You might even laugh at this, but this is what we all do.

Hit a rough spot?
Whenever we face a struggle, hit a rough spot in our lives, we run towards to a simpler path hoping that’ll help us.
The rough spot is your power cut and your phone is your destination or goal. Stop finding excuses for the things you know you could’ve done easily. Sit down and think. Have you given it your best? Is this all the efforts you can manage to put in to succeed?
We consider ourselves a failure too soon. Failure is nothing but giving up midway, not having the patience to reach your goals.
There is nothing outside of you that will bring about a change inside of you. Why is there anyone else in the picture after all? It is your life, your goals, so won’t they need you? Do not depend on anyone to motivate you to put in your best efforts.
The Demotivated Days
If you’re feeling demotivated right now, it is not the end of the world. There is not a single person in this world who is motivated every second of his life. Everyone has their own versions of ups and downs in life.
The demotivated days are your re-charging days. Even your mobile can’t last a day if you don’t charge it before right? It is not much different for us.
Treat your demotivated days as your vacation. Relax and collect the energy you’ll need to work hard again towards your goals. We are not machines, it is natural to be exhausted at times.
Just as you need to sharpen a knife to keep using it, again and again, you need to sharpen your brain too. Time spent idle is not time wasted, but a time invested in relaxing your continuous flow of thoughts.
But yes, don’t get me wrong. I’m not telling you to leave everything and spend time idle right away. Let it happen at its own pace. When you are in your demotivated state, slowly build your energy for the amazing things you will achieve.
Look at things differently. Do not look at a problem as a burden but as a challenge, as an opportunity. Because if everything goes smoothly every day without any rough spots to tackle, your learning curve will decline.
Treat every obstacle as an opportunity to be better than what you were yesterday.
